Name of MAO reality show leaked on Miss Vermont blog–see post!

Hello friends and Happy Holidays!

I have actually been away from Vermont and in the sunny state of California for the past couple of weeks. The other fifty-one state titleholders and I met in LA to film our new reality television show for TLC- “Miss America Reality Check“! It will be airing in January on TLC leading up to the live pageant on January 26th!

I must say that it was an incredible opportunity to meet my fellow 2008 Miss America classmates! They really are a diverse and empowered group of young women. Plus, now we can all say that we know the new Miss America!

I cannot spill any details, but please tune in to both Miss America Reality Check and Miss America Live.

Back here in Vermont, school is coming to a close for the semester and both the holiday and ski season are fast approaching. I cannot wait for it to really snow. I am excited to be here in the Green Mountain State for Christmas, doing lots of literacy events during this festive time of year. Right before I left for LA, I visited the Head Start program here in Middlebury, with my good friend Audrey Nelson, and had a blast reading to the preschoolers there. I also shared my crown and sash with them, of-course!

Miss Universe thanks ‘my boss, Donald Trump’ for fashion mag’s award

7:25pm Monday, November 26

Miss Universe Riyo Mori said Monday she wanted to tell “my boss, Mr. Donald Trump” about how happy she was to have been selected as one of Vogue Nippon’s 2007 Women of the Year.

Mori, who told the awards ceremony held at a Tokyo hotel that she also wanted to thank her departed grandmother and all those who supported her, was one of a glittering group of women the Japanese language version of the famous fashion magazine picked as the outstanding Japanese women in their fields throughout this year.

Selected along with the winner of the Trump-owned beauty pageant was a who’s who of Japanese women, including actresses Anna Tsuchiya, Rei Dan and Sumiko Fujii, filmmaker Naomi Kawase and comedienne Tomochika.

Mori said her year “has gone by in a blink.”

“I was delighted when I was selected as Miss Universe in Mexico in May. Since then, I’ve been meeting people all over the world and doing all sorts of charity work. I go to places thinking I will be there to help people, but I usually end up being helped myself because of the power of the people I meet. It tells me I’ve still got a long way to go,” she said.

Tsuchiya, meanwhile, offered her advice on what she thinks makes “an ideal woman.”

WOW! What a night! Traci and i endured 37 degree weather, we are such troopers! 🙂 Red McCombs Toyota sponsored us with a convertible Toyota Solara and we rode in the Comfort Night Christmas Parade with the top down, and car decorated; pink Christmas tree and all! Judging was at 5:30 and the parade began at 7:00. Although sitting in the misting nearly freezing weather was tough, we survived long enough to travel through the small town of Comfort Texas for a parade route that was about 2 miles long! The streets were filled with smiling faces and little children who LOVED our big crowns and sparkling banners!
