Miss America Contestant Asked Question About Sarah Palin

This smart guy thinks he caught an error in the question about Sarah Palin. Personally, I think any lady that even participates in a local is a Miss America contestant as stated in the question…What do you think?

Well, during Saturday’s “Miss America Pageant,” one of the contestants was actually asked a question about Sarah Palin.

Maybe even more delicious, the question was factually inaccurate.

The questions for the Q&A segment were asked by purportedly randomly chosen people, and a young woman asked Miss New York, Leigh-Taylor Smith, “During the presidential campaign, the media made a big deal about Sarah Palin being a Miss America contestant. Do you think that was fair?” Wrong! Palin, as Miss Wasilla, was a Miss Alaska contestant and didn’t advance to The Show …

Don’t you hate it when people don’t know the facts about past beauty pageants?

It’s Miss America 1987!

Hating on Katie’s dress is all over the blogosphere. Not sure if I totally disagree…but this one is extreme (but funny).

Okay, I know this is Miss America and all, but Katie Stam from Indiana should have not been crowned while wearing this dress. She didn’t even wear the right shoes! Only exquisite lucite heels could properly compliment this elegant ensemble. It’s like her mom bought this dress when she was a little girl and said, “One day my baby will wear this gorgeous gown to the shotgun wedding of her dreams!” Unfortunately, the shotgun wedding hasn’t happened yet, so she wore it to the Miss America pageant instead. This dress just confirmed that the whole Miss America crap is still sitting comfortably in the mid 1980s and refuses to move. It kind of sucks that I missed the whole mess on TV. It always makes for good entertainment while you’re bonging.

Miss Indiana, former Miss Duneland, crowned Miss America

One of many Indiana stories regarding Katie’s win.

LAS VEGAS | Katie Stam, of Indiana, was crowned Miss America on Saturday night fighting off a throat infection, laryngitis and 51 other contestants to win the 88-year-old pageant.

The 22-year-old University of Indianapolis student drew loud applause for her rendition of “Via Dolorosa” during the talent portion of the pageant at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Among her supporters was Michigan City native Jan Mertl, who serves as director of the Miss Duneland pageant where Stam got her local start to go on to the national pageant, Duane Mertl said.

He said his wife, who has served as Miss Duneland pageant director for 19 years, had worked with Stam and had traveled to Las Vegas.

“She had worked with her. … I’m sure my wife is on Cloud Nine,” Duane Mertl said.

Trophy baby: TLC’s child beauty pageant show is no winner

Does TLC stand for Torturing Little Children?

The cable channel’s emphasis on trailing children in bizarre home environments (see “Jon & Kate Plus 8” and “17 Kids and Counting”) gives plenty of ammo to viewers who believe TLC makes its brand by exploiting the young.

Now comes its latest unscripted series, “Toddlers & Tiaras” (Tuesday night at 10), a sympathetic yet ultimately creepy look at the world of child beauty pageants.
