Beaverton beauty to compete in TLC’s ‘Countdown to the Crown’

Miss Oregon story about the TLC show…

This Friday, viewers from across the country will tune in to see a Beaverton beauty queen sharpen her skills in beauty and fashion while competing for one of the coveted Top 15 Miss America spots in TLC’s “Countdown to the Crown.”

As Miss Oregon, 24-year-old Danijela (pronounced: dan-YE-la) Krstic will be shown living with the other 51 Miss America contestants on the RMS Queen Mary, a retired-ocean-liner-turned-hotel in Long Beach, Calif.

Throughout the four-part series, the women will take part in reality-show-style team and individual contests. The premiere (Jan. 2 at 10 p.m. on TLC) will feature a scavenger hunt race through the ship and an individual challenge to determine the women’s ability to remain composed, form an argument and listen as well as she speaks.

But this year, for the first time, viewers will get to vote through the Web site and text messages for one of the Top 15, the first cut at the 2009 Miss America Pageant, shown live on TLC at 8 p.m. ET on Jan. 24.

Jailed Mexican beauty queen forfeits title

The plot thickens…Check out the last two paragraphs I clipped here…

A Mexican beauty queen detained on suspicion of drug and weapons violations has been stripped of her crown in the Hispanoamerican Queen pageant, contest organizers said Saturday.

Laura Zuniga, 23, was stripped of first-place honors for “failure to comply with the regulations of the title she represents,” Bolivia-based pageant organizing company Gloria Promociones said in a statement. She beat more than 19 contestants from Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States to win the title in October.

Runner-up Vivian Noronha of Brazil will receive the crown.

But doubts are already beginning to arise about Zuniga’s string of pageant victories, after a Sinaloa state official told local media that she may not have gone through the proper auditions for the Miss Sinaloa contest.

“Everything indicates she won her crown through the intervention of her boyfriend, a drug lord,” wrote columnist Carlos Puig in the Mexican newspaper Milenio.
