When the new Miss USA is crowned on March 23, 2007 in Los Angeles, there’s a good chance she may be a GSU student. As the new Miss Georgia USA, Brittany Swann, 23, a GSU senior studying Marketing and Management, will be among the contestants competing to be Miss USA 2007.

Swann is no pageant veteran, but says she has dreamed since childhood of being Miss USA. “I have been preparing for this moment forever. I have always had my heart set on being Miss Georgia and Miss USA.” In November 2006, after her second attempt at the title, one half of that dream was realized. And she now looks forward to completing the next phase of her lifelong vision. “I am going to be in L.A. representing Georgia right along with [women from] 50 other states who are considered cream of the crop. We are all there with the same goal in mind of bringing home the title of Miss USA. The stakes are high and the opportunities are even higher.” The competition will be fierce, but Swann feels confident. “I am just going into it knowing that I have done all that I can, like me or not, this is who I am.” And she has loftier plans than just winning. “My goal is to leave an impact and set a standard for women to look to and want to follow.”

Tara Picks "Today" & "Tonight" Over Oprah

Tara ConnerShe’s only been out of rehab for a few days, but embattled Miss USA Tara Conner has already started a major war between TV megastars.

Sources connected with the pageant tell TMZ that both “Oprah” and the “Today” show battled hard to land Tara’s first post-rehab appearance and “Today” won. We’re told Tara chose “Today” because the interview would be all about her — but on “Oprah,” she would have to share the stage with The Donald and others.Tara will appear on “Today” February 1.

We’ve learned that Tara’s second appearance will be on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Feb 2.

And we’re told there’s an internal battle among pageant bigwigs over which TV entertainment magazine show Tara will do. One pageant source says it’s getting ugly because of the various alliances.

TMZ broke the story that Conner was in hot water because of her hard-partying ways.

Mario Lopez Ready for Miss America, What About Karina Smirnoff?

By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith
Jan 21, 2007

Mario Lopez tells us that although many celebrities are currently vying for a spot on “Dancing With the Stars,” his famous friends aren’t interested. “They saw how much work I was going through so they said, ‘Forget that,'” says Lopez with a laugh.

However, Lopez claims he has no regrets about doing the show, which helped revitalize his career and brought a new woman into his life, his dance partner, Karina Smirnoff. Rumors are still swirling around the “friends,” who’ve been spotted vacationing and even spending Thanksgiving together. “She’s been busy because she’s been doing the tour,” Lopez tells us of their current time together. “She’s a good friend. She’s a great person. I have nothing but respect for her and I think the world of her.”

If there is indeed more than a friendship, Smirnoff might not be too happy about the fact that Lopez will be surrounded by many beautiful women as he’s set to host the Miss America Pageant, which will air Jan. 29 on CMT.

Miss USA Gets No Welcoming Party

Tara ConnerMiss USA Tara Conner finished her stint in rehab yesterday but, contrary to swirling rumors, didn’t have a welcome-home bash at the club where she spent many of her notoriously wild nights.

Conner returned to her Trump Place apartment yesterday, says the New York Daily News, and “insiders” say that she’ll be resuming public appearances soon. “Right now she’s just going to get used to being out” of the Caron Foundation, said one source. Tara successfully avoided what would’ve been one of the worst PR blunders in history by eschewing a coming-out party at Stereo, the frequent scene of her debauchery. “Tara Conner will not be at … any party at Stereo,” said a pageant rep.

Miss USA Out Of Rehab

Embattled Beauty Queen, Tara Conner, Needs Time To Breathe, Newspaper Says

Slideshow: Miss Universe 2006

(CBS) NEW YORK Miss USA Tara Conner checked out of a rehab clinic yesterday and went back to her Trump Place apartment in New York City, the New York Post reported Monday

Insiders tell the newspaper that Conner will resume public appearances once she settles.

“Right now she’s just going to get used to being out,” a source told the New York Post. “She needs some time to breathe.”

Conner was evaluated last month because of a few too many late nights out on the town in New York City, where she is said to have engaged in underage drinking. Local newspapers reported that Conner tested positive for cocaine. The 21-year-old spent a month in rehab at the Caron Foundation in Pennsylvania, the Post said.
